LET'S SAY 'ENOUGH' TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!

December 6, our National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day to remember not only 14 young women who were killed for choosing to fulfill a professional dream, but all women who have died as a result of violence. It is a day for Canadians to reflect and work towards ensuring the safety of women and girls in their communities.


MOST RECENT STATISTICS CALL FOR VIGILANCE

The rate of sexual assaults rose, the first increase in 9 years (StatsCan, The Daily, July 2002)

The latest report on abused women indicates a 6% increase over a one year period in the number of women and children seeking shelter: from 90,792 to 96,359 (StatsCan, The Daily, March 2001)

Spousal homicides increased in 2001 for the first time in 6 years (StatsCan, The Daily, September 2002)
